STEAM Activities for Elementary Students

Posted by Meredith Classroom Management No Comments

This is a guest post by author Jacqui Schlesinger. Jacqui contacted me and asked if I would help get the word out about a new website she created with other high schoolers. Of course I said yes! Read on to find out more about it.

Steminists in Action!

Founded in 2018 by five female high school students and an advisor, the STEM Education Club has stayed true to its mission: to teach elementary school students STEM using interactive and engaging materials and methods. Though our primary focus was in-classroom teaching throughout the previous two school years, we have transitioned online for the time being. Through our extensive STEAM Activities website, students, parents, and educators can find resources and lessons for every age level to work on at home.

Interactive Activities to Create Lifelong Learners

At the beginning of our journey, we wondered what the best way to teach STEM to elementary students was. The answer came through a research project encompassing numerous interviews with high school students about their favorite elements of their early education. There was one overarching answer that made these lessons memorable: interactive activities. This work created our one, steadfast belief: all of our lessons are paired with interactive activities, a leading indicator for student engagement and learning.

Dozens of Activities for Pre-K through 5th

The STEM Education Club website features over 45 lessons for pre-kindergarten students through fifth-graders and is updated regularly. The site is designed for student use, although parents are welcome to participate and work with their students. Every activity has a designated age range, description, and learning objective.

Developed by high school STEM enthusiasts, these lessons are sure to please. Each lesson includes a slideshow and is always accompanied by an interactive activity, video, and other multimedia options. We work constantly to ensure that all students and their families have access to engaging, quality STEM resources during the period of distance-learning and into the future.

Not Just for Kids but Educators, too!

Educators can also utilize our STEAM Activities site using the For Educators page. Each lesson is listed with an accompanying description and links that can be copied and sent to your students in one click. Making it easy for educators and their students to access these resources is a priority for us and we would love to assist you in any way.

To contact the STEM Education Club you can check out this page on our STEAM Activities website. Also don’t forget to explore our website using the links above. We look forward to hearing from you for feedback. Remember to stay curious and explore the world around you through STEAM!
