FAQs
What is STEM?
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. STEAM adds in arts to the mix.
STEM activities combine two or more of the core pillars of STEM together to create an interdisciplinary experience. STEM is *not* a craft, and it is actually a LOT harder to find appropriate and meaningful STEM activities for students!

Why is STEM important?
Not only do STEM activities engage students in cross-curricular skills, they naturally support students in becoming leaders, collaborators, and critical thinkers. STEM activities, when done correctly, support the 4 Cs (collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication). These are 21st century skills that students will need regardless of whether they land in a STEM field or not when choosing a career.
Are STEM activities the only way to access STEM?
No! While all of our contributors use STEM activities with students, you can still inspire students with STEM even if you can’t fit STEM activities into your school day. Try a STEM themed read aloud, such as reading about a famous STEM innovator. Read a book about failure! Set up a bulletin board about famous inventions that students use every day. There are countless ways to spark curiosity about STEM even if you can’t try STEM activities and challenges.
